About Pantosec (Pantoprazole, Generic Protonix)

Pantosec is effective for treating Gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcer. The active ingredient (Pantoprazole) acts by blocking excess acid production in the stomach.

How to use Pantosec

Pantosec (Pantoprazole) is typically taken once a day, 30 minutes prior to a meal, and is normally prescribed for a period of 8 weeks. Patients may be prescribed an extended course of medication if their esophagus has not improved by the end of these 8 weeks.

Tablets should be taken whole, and never crushed or broken.

Adverse effects
Common adverse effects include diarrhoea, vomiting, costiveness, headaches and rash.

Less common adverse effects which have been reported include dizziness, abnormal heartbeat, pain in muscle, lack of energy, leg cramps and fluid retention

Drug interactions

Although Pantosec (Pantoprazole) doesn’t usually interact with other medicine, it should never be taken alongside clarithromycin, or voriconazole. Medicines may increase adverse effects of Pantoprazole : Clarithromycin, voriconazole

The effects of some medicine will be reduced when a patient is also taking Pantosec (Pantoprazole). These include anticoagulants (warfarin), digoxin, ampicillins, azole, antifungals (Ketoconazole), asatinib, clopidogrel, or a HIV protease ihhibitor. Always discuss the possible implication with your physician if you are taking any of these drugs.
